This past weekend, I hopped in the car and made the drive down to our nation's capital, Washington DC, to check out the grand opening (well, technically REOPENING) of VÜK Pinball! While their official opening for daily operations was on Sunday, September 22nd, on Saturday they celebrated their grand opening with a large tournament, and a luncheon for all the players catered by the nearby Italian restaurant Maggiano's.
VÜK is a name that's well-known in the Maryland pinball scene; originally opening in Bethesda as a pizza and pinball parlor back in 2016, they existed until 2021 at which point their building ended up being torn down to make way for a new high-rise condo development. Most of the games ended up in a side room at a nearby MOM's Organic Market in College Park, until that too eventually closed. Yes, MOM's is the same chain of organic grocery stores that we've previously featured on this page, with their location in Abington PA that also features about two dozen pinball machines and retro games! Both VÜK and MOM's are owned by the same enterpreneur, Scott Nash. The Chevy Chase Pavilion is a mall in the Friendship Heights section of DC which has been around since the Nineties, and it's currently undergoing remodeling. While it feels kind of like a ghost town, just walking into the building you can hear the pings and knocks from all of the games. The new location for VÜK can be found on the ground floor, down from the street level. It's right near the entrance to the Metro, as well, and has hours that ensure just about anybody should be able to fit a visit into their schedule, opening at 7 AM and staying open until 11 PM every night except Sundays. They have a
