The first scene of Beauty and Mr. Romantic begins with Do-ra's mother Mi-ja taking her to a singing performance. We observe that because of her unsatisfactory performance, she gets paid less. Then, while Mi-ja is away for a few days, she asks Do-ra to look after her younger brothers, Do-sik and Do-joon. We also find out that Do-ra is trying to avoid someone by not going home since she owes them money.
