Young people around the world are opting to forgo their drivers license, in favor of other kinds of mobility. From Uber, to public transit, there is another contender entering the ring - self-driving cars. But as you might have noticed, they are still quite rare on the streets today. What's up with that ? From the collision rate of self-driving vehicles (which do get into accidents, but in most cases, are crashed into by human drivers), to the false advertising of Tesla's full self-driving which has caused many to trust these cars... They also go into the debate around Lidar, which is a whole other rabbit hole. https://youtu.be/pUtJ8HPZRkw On Lidar, we've gotten used to those spinning Lidar sensors hanging off of Waymo or Cruise taxis we see in the press, but another kind of lidar exists, and is what Deeproute uses - solid-state lidar. The availability and cost of these solid state lidars is the reason they are able to shrink the price of their self-driving system to a few thousand USD, though I would imagine there are some tradeoffs - it's quite hard to get up-to-date information on this.
