First impressions definitely last the longest. I had heard about The Pinshack for a while now, and figured out a way to carve out some time to check it out on our trip back from New Hampshire in early October. So we drove out to East Hampton, Connecticut on a Sunday afternoon after a brief detour through Rhode Island, found some public parking nearby, and walked down the block to the address in Waze. I guess, in retrospect, I should have probably checked to see if they actually had a parking lot first. Which they did. Gravel, but it worked. But walking up to the building did not fill me with a ton of confidence. It appeared that the name of the arcade was being taken quite literally, as it really appeared to be a run-down shack. I wasn't even sure if it was the correct place at first until I spied their name and logo on a small sign up on the top. Upon entering, we discovered that it was, in fact, the place we had been looking for. Sunday afternoon they were open until 8 PM, and we had arrived a bit late in the day, so we didn't get the most use out of our $15 per person cover charge. Inside, we found a collection of about 30 miscellaneous arcade games, ranging from retro favorites like Defender, X-Men, and Mortal Kombat to obscurities like Speed Buggy, Special Criminal Investigation, and The Maze Of The Kings. There was a Guitar Hero Arcade cabinet up front and center that was pumping out tunes for the plastic guitar shredders all day long. And the "pin" part of the name came from the pinball machines interspersed between the other arcade cabinets; there were about 10 different pins, ranging from machines dating through the 80's and 90's all the way to the new modern Jersey Jack machine for Toy Story 4. When we visited, there was a pinball league going on, so many of those machines were in use for that and it was hard to get in a play.
