Based on a TRUE STORY. The film is based on the first post-war Unified Korea sports team, which competed in the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan. The team was formed after a summit between North and South Korea to reduce tensions on the peninsula following the 1987 bombing of Korean Air Flight 858. Table tennis was chosen as the symbolic unifier because it was world-class in both countries. The film stars Ha Ji-won and Bae Doona, and was directed by Moon Hyun-sung. The film tells the story of two world-class players who must put aside their differences to become teammates and defeat a dominant Chinese team.
