During our recent trip down to Ocean City MD, we stopped by this small place in Rehoboth Beach in Delaware that was billing itself as an "arcade bar & grille". Intrigued to see what they had, we made a quick visit to check it out. What we discovered was a place awash in retro games and a whole lot of nostalgia for beloved pop culture franchises!
The Hideout is located just off of US-9 (or DE-1, or Coastal Highway if you so choose) right across the street from the Surfside Tanger Outlets. If the building looks a little sus, that might be because apparently this was formerly a Hooters. Interesting to see them end up going a different route here! Walking in through the main doors, you quickly become aware this is something out of the ordinary when the lobby's ceiling is completely bathed in neon blacklight murals. Inside the restaurant, you've got more Super Mario scenes on the walls, as well as statues and memorabilia from Star Wars, Superman, Terminator, the Avengers, Predator, TMNT, and more! But what about the games?
The majority of the games are downstairs, to the left of the dining area. Over here, you've got a few claw machines and a coin pusher, a Key Master, and a few other redemption games. But there's also a good bank of classic retro games, including Tempest, Tetris, Frogger, and Tron. There's also a couple of recent Stern pinball machines down here, such as Stranger Things and The Munsters. Time Crisis II, Terminator Salvation, and House of the Dead make up the shooting contingent, and racers are represented with the original Mario Kart Arcade GP, Super Bikes 2, the new Fast & Furious Arcade in its smaller version, and San Francisco Rush 2049. Meanwhile, upstairs, you've got even more retro games with Donkey Kong, Popeye, and Asteroids, as well as some bar favorites like Big Buck Hunter and Golden Tee.
