The Sanctum (Meriden CT), 4K arcade walkthrough & tour, August 2024

Making our first visit to The Sanctum in Meriden, Connecticut, it felt like we were doing something shady and illegal. Parking next to an old, abandoned warehouse. Telling the security guard that "we're here for pinball". Walking up the dilapidated steps. Following photocopied signs all the way back. And then finally, when we get to the actual arcade, I almost felt like I'd have to knock on the door and a little slat would open up with someone going "password, bub?". Needless to say, this pinball arcade is one of the best experiences in Connecticut that you can find. With over four dozen different machines spanning the electro-mechanical, solid state, DMD, and LCD eras, there's a little something for everyone here. They have one of the best collections of old-school Stern machines from the 70's and 80's I've personally seen to date, and it was my first time playing on a number of them. (I'm now a huge fan of Split Second! So cool.) Honestly, this is a super cool spot to play if you're in the area. I'm happy we made the nearly 3 hour trip up from Jersey to check it out before summer ended. That being said, you've really got to make the effort if you want to visit, as they are typically only open ONE night out of the week -- Monday nights from 7 PM onwards. They will be celebrating their tenth anniversary at the beginning of October and having a weekend event at that time, so if you aren't able to swing by on a Monday night, definitely try and give that a try! And if you see Spaghetti, the unofficial mascot big puppy of The Sanctum, make sure to give him plenty of behind-the-ear scritches.
