“Stree” is a 2018 Bollywood horror-comedy film directed by Amar Kaushik. The film takes inspiration from a urban legend and includes the talents of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor as the lead actors, with Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee as supporting actors.
The scene is set in Chanderi, a small town where every annual festival comes with a creeping figure referred to as ‘Stree’. Stree is the myth and legend of men abductor woman where the only evidence that is left after the abduction is the men’s outfits. The people residing in the town live in constant fear and have taken measures to ensure that they do not end up being her prey.
Vicky is portrayed by actor Rajkummar Rao who is a tailor and is enchanted by a strange woman acted by Shraddha Kapoor. It helps to mention how apart from the hero who is held captive seemingly every other character is in a panic about Stree.
"Stree" is a unique mix of horror and comedy and there are very interesting messages within the film. The film received appreciation for its refreshing plot, excellent acting, and the equilibrium between the humour and horror. This was a box office hit as well as a critical success and stands as one of the all-time highest grossing Bollywood films of the year 2018. The film also caught attention by the phrase “O Stree Kal Aana” which, is a popular phrase and a Bollywood lingo now.
