Florence Price: Symphony no. 1, III. Juba - Ballet Etoko & Brussels Student Orchestra c. Simon Pu

On 6 December 2024, two groups of musicians and artists came together to present a new production of Florence Price's First Symphony. The Brussels Student Orchestra, established in November 2024, consists of music students and amateur musicians based around Brussels, Belgium. Simon Pu, conductor of the ensemble, founded the group with the aim to bring together classical musicians of different age groups and levels of experience. In 2018, Tister Ikomo founded Etoko, a cultural organization whose ambition is to create and disseminate inter-disciplinary artistic creations to audiences of all ages. These range from dance and music to performance art and other forms of live entertainment. The collaboration between Brussels Student Orchestra and ballet Etoko resulted in a new production of Florence Price's First symphony, with a new original choreography especially made for this creation. Our ambition is to highlight the African essences in Price's work, showing them in an authentic yet contemporary light.
