The story
The film is about the passengers of the Taiping, a ship carrying people fleeing communist rule in China at the end of the Civil War. The ship sank in the Baijie Strait, about 71 miles southeast of Shanghai, killing over 1,500 people.

The Crossing 2 is part two of a two-part historical epic directed by John Woo. The film also tells the stories of three couples and their love lives in 1940s Shanghai and Taiwan.
