Rolex’s connection to the Daytona Speedway, and the namesake of their iconic chronograph, began in 1962 when the company became the official timekeeper at Daytona. In 1963, the Cosmograph Daytona made its official debut, complete with the Speedway’s name emblazoned on the dial.
The Daytona Speedway and Rolex’s partnership endures, even decades later. In fact, the 24 Hours of Daytona, aka Rolex 24 at Daytona, is still held annually, with Rolex as their sponsor.
Rolex’s beloved chronograph is perfectly at-home among the fast-paced world of motorsport. The current lineup boasts a singularly reliable self-winding movement that is both shock-resistant and anti-magnetic. Housed within a waterproof case virtually impervious to moisture and extreme temperature variations, the movement will keep perfect time while zipping around the racetrack.
The Daytona also famously features a chronograph function within the movement that essentially acts as a stopwatch. Whether you’re watching from the stands or you’re behind the wheel, this feature can also be used to calculate average speed or measure elapsed time by engaging the pushers above and below the crown.
The collection is always characterized by coordinating registers on the dial, side pushers, and a Tachymeter bezel that coordinates with the chronograph movement to measure average speed and distance.
