Smoking a Winston Red Cigarette (Review) from the United States, which is the brand’s flagship full-flavor product, and has been for quite a long time.
Winston, named after Winston-Salem, a city in North Carolina, is an American cigarette brand that was first introduced in 1954 by the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, and quickly became quite popular, helped enormously by television promotion, the most notable of which being on the Flintstones.
After the 1970's though, the nameplate’s popularity within the United States started stagnating, and today, the brand is not as large as it used to be, although other markets are a different story.
These days, within the United States, the brand is made by ITG, the US subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco, but outside of the United States, it is Japan Tobacco who makes them, and depending on the market, Winston is a much more popular brand than not.
