Player 1Up in Rock Hill, South Carolina, is an awesome little arcade bar! It's not huge, but they have a pretty good mix of games across the board. One of the things I was surprised about was seeing a few redemption games, which don't usually make the cut in arcade bar joints; with a few claw machines, cut-the-string machines, Ice Ball, Hoop Fever, and the like, it was a unexpected diversion out of the ordinary. Aside from that, they definitely focused more on modern games than retro hits like some of their competitors. Mario Kart, Jurassic Park, Tomb Raider, Guitar Hero, and even Sega Racing Classic showed up here. That being said, there were a few retro games as well, including a stand-up old school Monaco GP cabinet from Sega that I had never seen out in the wild as far back as I can remember. Their pinball collection is also a strong point of pride for them, with over two dozen machines including a mix of modern stuff and some rare classics (Bad Cats and Tales of the Arabian Nights being a couple of standouts). They frequently run tournaments out here as well, so if you consider yourself a good pinball player, be sure to check it out! All the games here use tap-to-play cards similar to Dave & Buster's, and the pricing is very fair; most of the pins were 3.0 credits (approximately 75¢ a play), and I don't remember seeing anything cost more than 4.0 credits (or a buck). As mentioned, there's a bar with lots of rotating brews on tap, and there's also a limited kitchen menu featuring favorites like burgers, pizza, and wings. They are another establishment that is 21+ only after 9 PM, so keep that in mind if and when you visit. I hope to come back and play some more the next time I find myself down in South Carolina, and hopefully I'll also get a chance to check out their sister location closer to the SC shore in Murrells Inlet!
