During the Joseon Dynasty, musical education was especially provided to gifted blind people by the department of music within the palace. As members of the music department, the blind musicians who played the Gayageum, Geomungo, Piri, and other traditional instruments performed in many of the palace festivities, during which their expertise in the musical field became well-known in the history of Korea.
