The Promised Land 2023 - Short movie Review

In 1755, Ludvig Kahlen, a destitute soldier, arrives on the desolate Jutland heath with a singular purpose: to heed the king's beckoning and transform the land into a prosperous and esteemed domain. However, Kahlen's aspirations are swiftly challenged by an adversary. Frederik De Schinkel, a merciless landowner who asserts his sole authority over the territory, claims the heath as his own, refusing to acknowledge the king's ownership. When De Schinkel's serf escapes with his wife, Ann Barbara, and seeks refuge with Kahlen, the landowner embarks on a relentless campaign to drive him away and exact a vengeful retribution. Unyielding, Kahlen defiantly engages in an unequal battle, risking not only his own life but also the fragile bond with the small yet troubled family that has formed around him amidst the vast heath.
