Rei Kiriyama achieved professional status in middle school and has become one of the elite in the world of shogi. As a result, he bears an immense amount of pressure from the shogi community and his adoptive family. In order to escape from his stressful home life, he moves into an apartment in Tokyo. Being a 17-year-old who lives on his own, Rei tends to neglect his own well-being, which causes him to be a recluse and alienate himself from his peers at school and the shogi hall. Nonetheless, not long after his arrival in Tokyo, Rei encounters the Kawamoto sisters - Akari, Hinata, and Momo - who reside with their grandfather and run a traditional wagashi shop. Akari, the eldest of the three sisters, takes upon herself to provide Rei with motherly care, and the Kawamoto sisters, who have faced their own share of tragedies, offer him a special familial connection that he has been missing for a long time. In his pursuit of maintaining his physical and mental health through his shogi career, Rei must master how to communicate with others and comprehend his own intricate emotions.
