As I was reading the novel a week or two ago, I started wondering if Duan Jiaxu even exists in real life. But soon later, the moment that I’ve learned about his past, I started to hope that he doesn’t. But my hope never came true… Because as I was googling, I found out that the author, Zhu Yi, had actually met her “Duan Jiaxu” but had lost in contact with him later on. And the novel, “Secretly, Secretly; But Unable to Hide It,” was a dedication of her ideal youth with him. I couldn’t tell if I was more heartbroken or delighted when I read this news. I was happy that someone like Duan Jiaxu actually exists in real life… But at the same time, I felt heavy-hearted with the realization that someone actually had to go through what Duan Jiaxu had been through in real life. For days, I really couldn’t help but wondering… I obviously do not know how alike the real-life “Duan Jiaxu” is to the novel character Duan Jiaxu, but I could only hope that he experiences anything less than tragic.
