Rain showers in Tokyo have thrown everyone off their daily routine. Hodaka Morishima, a runaway high school student, struggles to make ends meet and finds employment at a small-time publisher. Meanwhile, Hina Amano is an orphan in search of work to support herself and her younger brother. Their paths cross when Hodaka rescues Hina from a group of questionable men and they decide to run away together. Hodaka soon discovers Hina has an incredible power - the ability to call the sun out whenever she prays for it, which could be useful given Tokyo's abnormal weather patterns. Hodaka suggests Hina become a "sunshine girl" who clears the sky for people when they need it the most. Although it seems like a positive outcome, they will soon realize that such powers come with a significant cost...
