Yusuke Tsushima and Kyota Hattori each face charges of attempted murder for their roles in stabbing sprees that occurred within months of each other. Tsushima told police he targeted “happy women” in his attacks, but denied murderous intent. The case was described as an attack by an “incel” or involuntarily celibate young man. In his case, Hattori was allegedly dressed as Batman’s nemesis the Joker when he stabbed a passenger and then attempted to set fire to a carriage on the JR Yamanote line subway.
