Clare Boothe Luce's The Women 2001 (Lead:Cynthia Nixon)

6 ViewsJun 21, 2023

Set in the 1930s, this Stage Play features Sex and The City's Actress Cynthia Nixon (You know, Miranda?) as a virtuous married woman Mary Haines who thinks she had it all... Good Friends and a Good Husband... Sadly she doesn't know how chaotic and messy her friends are, and one of them knows something Mary would rather not know about... This play is kind of suited for feminists out there (At least for the second wave I think , the types who love to think women should have a space and preferably dominance over something-- Or was that third wave?) as this show comprises only of women. If I remember it right it's the first stage play composed of women, for women and by a woman- a trailblazer of its kind. To my knowledge it proved such a thing can be done, during a time the idea that a story centered on a woman without a male lead can't bring in the bucks is prevalent. I cut off that part that explains the significance of it and the play's history. That's on the YouTube copy by another uploader... Sorry for that... This play may have questionable themes and principles but tells the story and mindset of the women of the 30s. It is written by a woman and captures the mindset and views of women of their decade. In our age though, this might be considered a satire and mockery of what had been. We are not proud of it but let us acknowledge and remember it happened and this is the capsule of that time... For me it's a revelry of something bitter and questionable...
